The Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Project “Aurora Through European Identity and Integration” [IDEA] (PROJECT NUMBER -574833-EPP-1-2016-EL-EPPJMO-PROJECT) is organized and coordinated by DIKTIO-Network for Reform in Greece and Europe, a think-and-act-tank of European orientation. It's President and founder is Anna Diamantopoulou, a former European Commissioner and Minister of Education.

DIKTIO’s ‘idea4Europe’ is designed to enhance and enrich knowledge of our common roots that have, and still shape Europeans, cultivate a sense of belonging, foster knowledge on EU issues and awareness of how EU policies positively impact our daily lives. It utilizes modern pedagogical underpinnings, communication techniques and the universal power of language to achieve its aims. Our common ancestral Indo-European language is the foundation upon which the Project is based.

A multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach is employed to address a well-documented and worrisome situation: euroscepticism, loss of trust in the EU, lack of information on the benefits of EU integration and a weakening of active citizenship especially among youth. The Project utilizes innovative pedagogical strategies such as game-based learning, and applies in practice Jean Monnet and E.U. Youth Strategy Priorities to address the void in an innovative manner.

The underlying rationale for the IDEA Project is to develop an innovative, user friendly to youngsters teaching tool based on new pedagogical underpinning to convey essential messages: existence of common roots shaping us, to embed the notion and sense of belonging by documenting and highlighting the fact that being European is much more than geography characteristics and at the same time foster knowledge on EU issues and benefits. The aim is to reach various segments of youth population, reveal and map views, attitudes, perceptions, beliefs and concerns on the EU through an online youth survey, and to show a different way of learning through the word guessing game.

A multidisciplinary approach is used throughout the project; cross-sectoral areas from comparative linguistics, philosophy, pedagogy, to Greek studies, European studies, the Sciences, etc will be harnessed to develop the IDEA teaching tool and enrich its implementation and promotion.

The societal groups targeted are youngsters, school population, primary and secondary levels, their educators, students and the general public as well.

"IDEA4Europe" consists of 5 phases including research and has distinct deliverables suitable for greek and non-greek audiences, and series of multiplier/publicity events. A more detailed description of it or which is included in the respective Sections of the Activities Menu.

The final Deliverable - Report will include Policy-Making Recommendations based on the ideas and input of the stakeholders involved and mapping all the codification of the findings from the ‘journey’ of the ‘IDEA’ project team.

The project is founded on three pillars: pedagogy, comparative linguistics and communication.

1. Pedagogy: The IDEA project based on the subsequent pedagogical directions incorporates freely elements allowing for additional variations of the main themes:

• Problem- and project-based learning, Inquiry based learning

• Collaborative knowledge building

• Game-based and simulation-based learning

• Story-telling and reflection-based learning A variation of a popular and entertaining letter guessing game/Quiz utilizing specially selected words, will be created as a game that can be played in a classroom or in a TV studio. The game that will be developed could be even played by different nationals, in different countries.

2. Linguistics: The Austrian philosopher L. Wittgenstein has said: “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." Today, 20 out of the 24 official EU languages trace their roots to, and belong to the greater Indo-European family. We are one world. We aim to create a collection of our common words, their etymology, evolution, connotation, as a demonstration of our common roots and environment and hence of our united future. Further, utilize the words as linkage to current European context creating the opportunity to elaborate and highlight positive aspects, policies, benefits etc of being a part of the EU.

3. Communication: Communication and content spread techniques include the most popular TV music channel in Greece, a popular TV journalist, TV pilot show creation, multiplier events in different cities and a Scholar's Committee of experts from a variety of disciplines to select words, participate in public discussions and promote the concept.

In its totality, the Project will foster a deepening of knowledge of our European destiny and will highlight its prospects from an appealing to youngsters angle and at the same time make them aware of the benefits the EU policies have on our daily lives.
